Calling All Pet Lovers: Share Your Fur Baby With Us!

I grew up with a dog, a black lab named Chipper. He was awesome, and the beginning of my journey to becoming a ‘dog person’. In college, my buddies and I had a black and white pit-bull mix named Snoop. After college, Snoop came home to live with my family and me. All excellent, joyous experiences.

Fast forward to this year. If you asked me a few months ago why we were moving, reason #3 was “to get a puppy”. That has now changed. Remy, the adorable little harbinger above, showed us just how much work a puppy is! Luckily, this was just a temporary situation, as we were dog-sitting for a friend, but yikes. Remy didn’t pee or poop ONCE outside while he was here, and it was a coin flip on whether or not he would hit the wee-wee pads laid out for him inside. I learned that owning a puppy is pretty much like having a baby in the house. You can’t leave anything on the floor, and you might not sleep so well at night.

On the plus side, LOOK AT THAT FACE. Remy is clearly cute and loves to snuggle. He was pretty obsessed with Pam all week, and when he had the Zoomies one day, he was doing the “Superman leap” over a step, and it was phenomenal. As an avid networker /connector, I appreciated that walking with him was a great way to meet our new neighbors with dogs. The kids LOVED him, and Remy enjoyed the little kid energy too.

The TL;DR is that we still want a dog, but we aren’t ready just yet. We still have a handful of boxes to get out of before we bring in family member #5.

Here at Murph Consulting, we LOVE our pets. I’m pretty sure that everyone else on the team already has at least one pet, and most have multiple pets. As you may know, we create calendars each year that go to some of our best clients, and most years, it’s just a fun way to flaunt our fur babies.

This year, we’re switching it up. We want to showcase YOUR pets in our 2026 calendar, which we will begin creating soon. If you’re a current client of ours, please email your best pet pics to pets@murphconsulting.com. You should also include what you want us to say, and provide a link to your business that you’d like people to visit. We’ll create a QR code for the link for you.

So, here’s an example of what this could look like:

This is Sebastian Meowchalis. His hobbies include napping in sunbeams and begging for people food. He lives with Jo, the Client Relations Manager at Murph Consulting. They provide tech support and Cybersecurity solutions for small businesses with 1-100 employees.

We can’t wait to see your pets!

My question for the month is: What else do we need to consider before getting a dog?

This month, Murph Consulting turned 18. I cranked up Alice Cooper's "I'm 18" and Skid Row's "18 and Life" to get the vibes going. My company is now old enough to vote, get a tattoo, and get married, all without parental consent. Watch out, world!

In all seriousness, the passing of another year of entrepreneurship and running a successful business always feels like a good time to reflect. Since we started in 2007, we've assisted nearly 600 small businesses and residential clients. Businesses in every industry, ranging in size from the solopreneur to 100 employees. There’s no company we’ll say “you’re too small for us to help”, and that gives me great joy. Small businesses need tech and CyberSecurity support, and we’ve got their backs.

Speaking of, it's October again, and you all know what that means, right? The Mets have failed us, and the Islanders, Jets, and Rangers are about to. It's also Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Every small business should be implementing some basic security measures by now. It's easier and more affordable than you think it is, and definitely cheaper than dealing with the fallout of something drastically bad happening to your business.

How's your password game? Do you use strong passwords on all the sites you visit, or are they all slight modifications of one word, like your kids or pets' names or birth dates?

If it's the latter, let's chat. You should be using a password manager. They are easy to use, create complex passwords for you that you no longer need to remember, and keep them all safe for you. I can't remember the last time I had to click on the "forgot your password" link for any site, and I love that for me.

A password manager is just one of the seven software we feel EVERY small business should have in place to help keep them protected in 2025. We’ve packaged these up together neatly and made them affordable for the small businesses we will always support.
