Help Desk With A Heart
Help Desk With A Heart
It occurred to me that you might not know why we started Murph Consulting and why our tagline Help Desk With A Heart is more than just a tagline. So today, it’s with great pleasure and a touch of nostalgia that we share our story with you – the journey behind the birth of Murph Consulting, The Help Desk With A Heart.
Back in 2007, Murph Consulting came into being not just as an IT company, but as a response to a glaring need. We had seen how IT firms often missed the mark when it came to understanding and serving their clients. Some were brilliant at solving tech issues but struggled to connect with people, while others were great at building rapport but lacked technical expertise. It was a gap we were determined to bridge.
From the get-go, our aim was simple: to break down the barrier between technology and people and to eliminate the “holier-than-thou” attitude that was prevalent in the industry. Our journey began with a client’s skepticism, “you’re on time, you must be a bad IT person,” which became the fuel to prove that not all IT experts were cut from the same cloth.
We’ve been fortunate to serve a diverse range of clients throughout our history, and our journey continues. Today, our team of 7 is dedicated to being the friendly faces you turn to when tech glitches threaten your workflow. However, we’re not just about big corporate clients – we’re the support for the smaller businesses and the residential clients that many overlook.
This year, our focus is on adding one monthly retainer client to our roster, ideally a business with 30-60 employees. The industries we’ve had the privilege to work with are as varied as our clientele, ranging from branding and marketing to schools, lawyers, dentists, wine dealers, jewelry companies, and architecture firms.
But let’s set the record straight – we’re not here to push a one-size-fits-all approach. Unlike many others, we cherish our flexibility. Whether it’s PCs, Macs, or a mixed environment, we have you covered. Our approach is about meeting your unique needs and crafting solutions that truly work for you.
Did you know that we’re not just here for the day-to-day issues? We’re your partners for projects too. Whether it’s fixing your office’s WiFi, enhancing cybersecurity, or stepping in when your in-house tech guru is stumped, we’re here to lend our expertise.
At Murph Consulting, we believe in listening to you, not just your tech. We understand that when you reach out to us, you’re already dealing with IT troubles that are hampering your productivity. Your job is to run your business, not to troubleshoot technology glitches. That’s where we step in – to get you back to what you do best.
While we got our start in the NY Metro area and most of our clients are here, we can support clients in all 50 states now. Know a company in Chicago, Florida, or Los Angeles looking for a better IT Partner? We can be that for them.
So, here’s to a future of solving tech problems with a heart, and to being your partners in navigating the ever-evolving world of technology. We’re just a call or a click away whenever you need us.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Murph
This month, Murph Consulting turned 18. I cranked up Alice Cooper's "I'm 18" and Skid Row's "18 and Life" to get the vibes going. My company is now old enough to vote, get a tattoo, and get married, all without parental consent. Watch out, world!
In all seriousness, the passing of another year of entrepreneurship and running a successful business always feels like a good time to reflect. Since we started in 2007, we've assisted nearly 600 small businesses and residential clients. Businesses in every industry, ranging in size from the solopreneur to 100 employees. There’s no company we’ll say “you’re too small for us to help”, and that gives me great joy. Small businesses need tech and CyberSecurity support, and we’ve got their backs.
Speaking of, it's October again, and you all know what that means, right? The Mets have failed us, and the Islanders, Jets, and Rangers are about to. It's also Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Every small business should be implementing some basic security measures by now. It's easier and more affordable than you think it is, and definitely cheaper than dealing with the fallout of something drastically bad happening to your business.
How's your password game? Do you use strong passwords on all the sites you visit, or are they all slight modifications of one word, like your kids or pets' names or birth dates?
If it's the latter, let's chat. You should be using a password manager. They are easy to use, create complex passwords for you that you no longer need to remember, and keep them all safe for you. I can't remember the last time I had to click on the "forgot your password" link for any site, and I love that for me.
A password manager is just one of the seven software we feel EVERY small business should have in place to help keep them protected in 2025. We’ve packaged these up together neatly and made them affordable for the small businesses we will always support.
